The mine is a deep hole, here the men extract something that others men need to build something else. In our suitcase there is a mine, where live Uncle Scarda( who is the uncle of no one) and Ciaula, a young miner chained who never left the mine and, for this reason, he is afraid of what there is outside. Their life under ground is repetitive; instead, above, nights and days go by and the dogs bark, frogs croak and children kick turtles.
One day a white ball falls from the sky to teaching Ciaula that there is not reason to be afraid of the fear.
Our story talks about the terror of what there is outside and of the freedom to choose the chains.Of the labors and the uncertainties if we want to be free. Of the moon, that somentimes tumbles from the sky and comes down to confusing.
Two puppets table, two pupperteers and some little musical instruments are all that we need for this story of a few words, but rich of sound and music, howlings, ukulele, kazoo.
A play born to travel, closed in a suitcase, that we can do everywhere,
With a little small set design we go to tell this story without words to everyone who wants listen it.
We need people near because, otherwise, they don’t believe it.
Text of the introduction:
“Imagine, pretend, that in front of you there is a suitcase, and that in this suitcase there is a mine. A mine is a hole from which some men extract a few things that some other men need to do other things. In this suitcase there is a mine, higher, there is a green meadow with flowers and a dog, a frog and a child. Even higher is the sky with clouds, the sun and the moon. inside the mine live two men, the first, Uncle Scarda, the highest, is blind in one eye and lives in the mine. The second is called Ciaula, which means crow, and is linked to mine, with a chain, and this has never been out, has never seen what’s out there, and for this, he’s afraid of what there, out.”
